Mary E. O'Byrne

 

Owner Mary E. O’Byrne has always had a passion for serving those in need.  She began her career in the health insurance and managed care industries but soon discovered that she most wanted to help people rather than corporations.   For over eighteen years,  Mary has concentrated in estate and special needs planning,   and is a tireless advocate for the financial independence for people with disabilities.   

Mary is a frequent teacher and speaker on these topics for the Maryland State Bar Association and other state and national educational forums;  she also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Admitted to the Maryland bar, Mary is a member of the Special Needs Alliance (currently serving on the board of directors) and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). She serves on the board of directors of NAMI-Metro Baltimore and is currently the Vice President of the Board.   She is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and the Baltimore County Bar Association.

Mary is a graduate of Yale College, received her Masters in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law, graduating Order of the Coif. 

Sage C. Hart

 

Sage is an attorney with O'Byrne Law, LLC.  She focuses her practice on estate and special needs planning, trust administration, and guardianship. Sage helps clients plan for the future by preparing legal documents that provide clear instructions and accurately reflect the client's wishes.  She listens to her clients and tailors her advice to her client's goals and circumstances.  She also advises fiduciaries serving in the role of guardian, agent or trustee.
 

Sage is admitted to the Maryland bar.  She is also a member of the Special Needs Alliance (affiliate member), the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Maryland State Bar Association.  She currently serves as Secretary of the Board for the First Maryland Disability Trust.

 

Sage received her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from University of Maryland School of Law. During law school, she earned a certificate in Health Law, served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Health Care Law & Policy and was a member of the Public Health Clinic.  She was also awarded the Dean's Award and the William P. Cunningham Award in recognition of her leadership and service to the law school community.  Prior to attending law school, Sage received her undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Tufts University.

Since 2013, Mary has led the Special Needs Trust Advocates group in meeting with the Social Security Administration.  In 2015, she was appointed to the Governor’s Task Force on ABLE Accounts.   She served as the first Executive Director and Trustee of the First Maryland Disability Trust, a pooled asset special needs trust for people with disabilities.

  • In 2011,  she was named Chapter Member of the Year,  Maryland by the MD/DC Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.

Ricky received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2018 from the Bar Association of Baltimore City Senior Legal Services Committee, was named a Generation J.D. Leadership in Law winner by The Daily Record in 2019, and was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star in Estate Planning and Probate in 2019.

Richard “Ricky” Adams

We are pleased to announce that Richard “Ricky” Adams has joined O’Byrne Law, LLC as an associate attorney. Ricky’s approach to the practice of law incorporates a holistic and compassionate form of advocacy. He enjoys working with clients of all ages, backgrounds, and needs, and his practice includes assisting with the legal needs of same-sex couples and other members of the LGBTQ community.

 

Ricky patiently provides legal guidance and support to all of his clients, whether they are a married couple with new children on the way, or are transitioning from an active adult lifestyle to retirement and beyond.

 

Licensed to practice in Maryland, Ricky received his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law and earned his B.S. in Gerontology and Legal Studies at the University of Maryland University College, and is currently pursuing a Certificate in Estate Planning at UB Law. He has experience in administering Trusts and Estates in a cost-effective manner, working to preserve the assets for the heirs, beneficiaries, and other family members through counsel and advice regarding distributions and associated rights.
